The United Nations is at the core of CIVIC’s humanitarian diplomacy work. We work closely with UN Member States, Secretariat entities, peace operations, humanitarian agencies, and other UN partners to strengthen the protection of civilians before, during and after conflict.
Our engagement includes Security Council deliberations, peacekeeping and special political missions, mission transition processes, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, and the development of operational guidance and protection policies. We actively contribute to discussions within the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C34), support implementation of Protection of Civilians mandates, convene dialogue during Protection of Civilians Week, and engage Member States and UN leadership on emerging protection challenges, institutional reform, accountability for civilian harm, and the future of peace.
Through field-based research, technical expertise, and sustained engagement with Member States and UN institutions, CIVIC works to ensure that the perspectives of conflict-affected communities are brought into UN policy discussion and operational decision-making.
