CIVIC was founded in the United States in response to civilian harm from US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Today, CIVIC continues to promote stronger protection of civilians policies and practices through our US Program as well as civil society partnerships across the Americas. Across the region, civilians face insecurity in the form of both armed conflict and criminal violence.
Meanwhile, as a regional and global superpower, the United States plays an outsized role in contributing to and mitigating civilian harm both in the Americas and around the world.
In this context, CIVIC engages with governments and civil society partners to advocate for stronger civilian protections and accountability.
