Shaping the Future of Civilian Protection
Since our founding in 2003, CIVIC has been guided by a simple conviction:
civilian harm is not inevitable.
For more than two decades, we have worked to prevent, minimize, and respond to civilian harm by developing practical, evidence-based approaches that strengthen the protection of civilians in armed conflict and other situations of violence.
Today, the challenges facing civilians are becoming increasingly complex. Protracted conflicts, weak governance, unresolved grievances, climate change, and the rapid evolution of military technologies are reshaping the risks civilians face and demanding new approaches to protection.
CIVIC’s Strategic Plans set out how we will meet these challenges. They outlines our priorities, strategic approaches, and organizational direction as we continue to engage civilians, armed actors, governments, and multilateral institutions to improve protection outcomes for conflict-affected communities.
