Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) is proud to announce that it has received second place in the 2021 Geneva Centre for Security Policy Prize for Innovation in Global Security out of a pool of 113 applicants. Three prizes (first, second, and third place) are given each year to individuals or organizations who demonstrate innovative solutions to problems in international security. This year, Geneva Centre for Security Policy recognized CIVIC’s innovative work on civilian harm tracking in Ukraine and the Sahel, especially our work with the Civilian Casualties Identification, Tracking and Analysis Cell (CITAC or MISAD in French) and the Civilian Casualty Tracking Provisional Group (CCTPG). These projects represent specialized tools for military operations to track and analyze civilian harm, which provide civilian-centered solutions to better recognize, prevent, and amend civilian casualties. Sergii Doma, CIVIC’s Senior Military Advisor in Ukraine, represented the organization at the virtual awards ceremony on November 18th. CIVIC is honored to be recognized for its innovative and impactful work on the protection of civilians in conflict.
