Aissata Ba is a Senior Program Officer at the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), where she works with security sector institutions, civil society organisations, and national and international stakeholders to advance the protection of civilians through policy engagement, advocacy, and partnership building. 

Aissata has worked across public health, gender equality, research, and international development in Mali and the wider Sahel.

Her work has focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal and child health, gender-based violence, mental health and psychosocial support, and implementation research. 

She held roles with Jhpiego, Population Council, RNW Media, and the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, contributing to research and development initiatives supported by USAID, the Gates Foundation, the World Bank, and other partners. 

Aissata holds an MSc in Global Public Health and Policy from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, an MA in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies from SUNY Albany, USA and an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from École Normale Supérieure de Bamako.

She is particularly interested in advancing equity, gender equality, stronger health systems, and locally led approaches to social change. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys writing poetry and blogs, using storytelling as a way to reflect on social issues, identity, and everyday experiences.
