Meet Anna Macdonald, UN Representative and Director of Humanitarian Diplomacy
Anna Macdonald is CIVIC’s UN Representative and Director of Humanitarian Diplomacy. In this role, she serves as CIVIC’s principal representative to the United Nations and Member States, leading the organization’s engagement with the UN system, Permanent Missions, and other multilateral partners in New York.
She also coordinates CIVIC’s Humanitarian Diplomacy work internationally, strengthening CIVIC’s policy influence on the protection of civilians, peace operations, civilian harm mitigation, and related priorities.
Anna has more than two decades of experience in international humanitarian advocacy, building coalitions, leading campaigns, and shaping policy with INGOs and the UN.
She played a central role in the campaign for the Arms Trade Treaty, serving as Director of Control Arms and, before that, as Head of Arms Control at Oxfam. Anna has advised multiple governments and has served as a consultant and senior advisor to UN agencies and international NGOs.
Most recently, before joining CIVIC, Anna advised UNICEF on strategic advocacy for child rights.
