Haja Kamara is the Chief Operating Officer at CIVIC, bringing over two decades of experience in humanitarian policy development and the management of complex humanitarian operations.

Before joining CIVIC, Haja spent 14 years with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), where she held various leadership roles overseeing emergency relief operations and humanitarian diplomacy across Africa and the Middle East. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff to the ICRC’s Director-General.

Earlier in her career, she worked at the African Union Commission as a Political Affairs Officer, focusing on issues related to refugees, returnees, and internally displaced persons across the continent.

Haja holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park (USA), and a Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (UK).
